Every Noise at Once

Six thousand music (micro)genres mapped onto a 2D plane according to the character of their sound (and color-coded too, for good measure). Click on the names to hear a preview of an example composition.
You can view similar maps for artists within each genre.
The list function sorts the six thousand genres according to various interesting criteria, such as xmasness or proximity to a selected genre.
The dataset was taken from Spotify in November 2023, thus being the sole thing to partially redeem Spotify.

A positively remarkable collection of one man's photos, recordings and technical drawings of trains, created in 2000 yet updated regularly still.
